Popularly known as a (Place of Gold- Southern Sotho ) captured the country's Attention when gold was discovered in 1886. Gauteng  incorporates the Sprawling urban areas of Johannesburg and Soweto as well as the country's Administrative capital , Pretoria . It is thought to have the largest population of Any province and generates at least one third of South Africa's GDP. in the heart Of Johannesburg northern suburb of Sandton is the Nelson Mandela Square ,dominating the Square is a huge 6m Bronze statue , many tourists visit the Square to have their photographs taken . named in honour of South Africa's first Democratically elected president  , less than 15 km was his last place of Residence in Houghton and the foundation's offices .
